Harbour Grace was a centre for transatlantic flights in the early 20th century. Famous pilots including Amelia Earhart, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic, and the first Canadian transatlantic pilots, Errol Boyd and Harry Connor, began their journeys here almost a century ago.
Today, the memory of these pioneering flights lives on in the Conception Bay Museum’s collection of model planes. The machines that made names like Earhart famous are recreated in miniature and put on display for air-minded visitors!
Visit the Conception Bay Museum on Aviation day to see the museum’s collection of model planes created by local artists; we’ve got planes that flew across the Atlantic, plus many more! We will also have ham radio operators on site for visitors to communicate with others across the world.
