A plaque marks this area, celebrating the past and the bison that once roamed the vast grassland that you can imagine surrounding you. The cache is close by. After you’ve found it, continue up the gravel road a short distance. Turn around for a spectacular view of the landscape. Now, there are roads, fields, and crops. 200 years ago there would have been grassland stretching on as far as your eye could see – and often, vast herds of bison. Today, wild bison have disappeared from the plains entirely, though there are some in parks and on farms.
