The McDougall Mill Museum was opened in 1969. It is located in the hictoric McDougall Mill built as a water powered grist mill in 1855 by John Lorn McDougall. It was used as a storage facility for the Renfrew Woollen Mills that occupied the site that is now O’Brien Park.
The museum has three floors of local artifacts on display, from our native heritage to present day. The main floor is completely accessible but there are stairs to the basement and top floors. The washrooms are located in the basement, but there is a temporary toilet in the park during the summer months.
Renfrew was a major hub of industry in the early part of the 20th Century with Barnet Refrigeration, Renfrew Creamery, Renfrew Electric, and Renfrew Woolen Mills. All shells destined for the front in WWI came through Renfrew to be filled with cordite at the Renfrew Munitions Plant
